I have joined legions of fans who like Pilsook (the uber adorable IU) and Jason (2PM's dancing machine WooYoung) in the teen drama focusing on the lives of 6 young teens aspiring for future success in the entertainment industry by attending "Dream High." This joint drama produced by JYP and Bae Yong Jun is doing well. Despite that the idol's in this drama are not top notch actors as Kim Soo Hyeon (Sam Dong) but they are working their hardest. Initially not a strong story line Pilsook (IU) is an overweight but very talented singer and her loveline has been developing with Korean American Jason (WooYoung). I loved how he liked her before she did her "200 day transformation." Plus her rendition of the 1995 hit by duo Panic "Waiting" is heartbreaking and emotive while at the hospital.
Jin Gook (Taecyeon) is the illigitmate son of a man aspiring to be in politics, HyeMi (Suzy maknae of the group Miss A) from a riches to rags has to ditch Jilliard for Kirin to repay her father's debt. Her cold and diva attitude does not win her many fans. But underneath her rough exterior lies a young woman who must take on alot and is a little afraid. BTW, what happened to her sister in the later episodes? Then Baek Hee (T-ara's Eun Jung) is HyeMi's former avid fan and follower and now sworn rival to stop being second to HyeMi. Sam Dong (Kim Soo Hyeon) is the talented actor and non-idol member of the cast. His acting is top notch and he is a talented composer but very back water who is totally besotted by HyeMi.
My friend teases me I am a total fan as I have always enjoyed stories with singing,dancing and with the Pilsook and Jason line sooo cute. From Pilsook's ep1 dressed as a piece of sushi but wowing the Kirin judge's singing "Someday" from the OST gets accepted. Then her developing crush on Jason leaving him lollipops. Or her confession to him using a song and post its to see if he actually likes her or not. Then she learns the heartbreaking truth (though HyeMi told her to be grounded in reality) that it is just his manners-not because he likes you in "that way."
I love how JYP does awesome comic relief as Teacher Yang. From trying to sound like a robot or using the visor and scarf to teach the students dancing to conceal his identity during school hours is hilarious in episode 12 ^^.

I notice that luck is weird, no matter good luck or bad luck that is for sure. I try to be a positive person but I admit it is not easy. As I have talked about it with friends, I make the CHOICE to be positive and happy. Recently, I fell down doing my Sunday walk with my pals. It had snowed earlier in the week. I was at the Esplanade and "boom" I fell down. Usually it is not an issue, but when your head hits the cement and it did not sound right. OOOPS! I am lying there thinking, I had no time to react! (Black ice can be dangerous like that too). Totally unexpected. It was 8am on a Sunday and I was tired. I got up and was grateful to not have a concussion. More into my 2 mile walk, I would fall down another 4 times. But I was more prepared and walked slowly. As a result this one big fall was worse than all the prior winters put together.
I had a huge bump on the back of my head near the base. My friend NT told me to go home and not sleep or nap for 8 hours. She even called and checked up on me. I admit there were times I sooo wanted to sleep but did not. In the end was I was fine. I could not sleep on my back due to the big bump. Aiyaaa!
Then to make matters worse, not long after that I got a dog bite. Now I did not grow up with pets other than fish. We had a dog for one weekend but my sis and parents nixed it after the weekend trial. Anyways, one cold winter morning I was rushing to grab the bus. Now I live only a block away. As I was rushing and running. I passed a man with his dog (had a leash) and holding a hot cup of coffee. I ran past them to only have the bull dog run and interrupt me. He was running around my feet and before I knew it as I stopped he bit me. Now I have heard how pets bite/scratch out of affection or from being playful. I had to say "He big me!" to the owner. I noticed not blood and ran off. Well I missed my bus and to take the train to work. By the time I got to work, I had felt this stinging sensation. Since I was so concentrated on getting to work, I did not get the dog owner's info. I had four nice dog teeth marks on my left ankle. I worried about rabies and other stuff. But I ended up not going to the hospital. My kind sis even came by and got bandage and antiseptic for me.
After a few weeks, (yeah I still have the scar to prove it) I even have scar tissue underneath. UGGGHH this scar tissue will never go away.
Despite these two incidents, I tried to remain positive. I still have my health and a job. I have friends and family who love me. Granted having a big bump on the head and having a dog bite are not two great things, I am still alive at least!
So embarked a long time ago a plan to take the parents to visit their homeland at least 10 years ago. Only a few years ago decided we needed a plan. So the siblings (headed by moi) to save money and take them. Unfortunately bro cannot go and sis is no interested. All talk and it is finally happening. But not before having some snafus first.
I admit I procrastinated and then came the VISA issue. There were more complications and the first pass for the parents did not work using a VISA agency. A big part was wanting or needing more documentation. Here is what I learned, I am grateful my boss rocks-last minute date off to go to NYC to square off this deal.
Parents lacked birth certificates and foreign passport other than their USA passport. 1) photocopy all their HK ID and Macau paperwork 2) wrote a statement in Chinese and English a) Made sure this statement was notarized b) Went to the capital (luckily I live in the state capital) have it notarized there (we got this gold seal and fancy letter.) Small fee of $6. 3) Headed to Chinese Consulate (they don't kid saying it is a mad house.) 4) Since I made the travel plans-I made sure to write out all the hotels, flights to China (they took that information).
Opened at 9am and we got their 8:15am already a line formed. After standing in line 3 times we could drop off our paperwork and we were told we MIGHT get it. Another consulate recommended we personally go as we would not know what else would be needed. GOOD ADVICE! I told my mom to bring ALL her docs. They did ask for hers and my dads US naturalization citizenship certificate.
A few hours later (after 2 hours waiting and dropping off the stuff) we were able to pick it up at 1pm. I had to go to window 9 to get the privilege only to reline up for the payment line (from window 7, 8 or 10). SUCCESS-we got it! The rush fee of $30 extra is reasonable. the current fee of $140 covers all forms of request-one time visit, one year multi visit, business etc. Payments in cash (ended March 2010), no personal checks, only credit cards, money orders work there now.
So I always try to help others when I can. From assisting a poor Chinese woman at 5am arriving from California at a NY airport (I had a layover then) to find her luggage, to walking elderly Chinese ladies to cross the street as well. Or even offering to help tourists to take photos for them.
Well on that crazy last minute trip to NYC to the Chinese Consulate I did another deed I did not think much of at all at first.
We took the 11:59PM Megabus to NYC as it would get us in at 4AM into NYC. Luckily NYC has a McDonald's open 24/7 we stayed there (cannot nap) but got to see TaeYang's MV "Wedding Dress" and "Where U At" on their long MV loop. So cool!
Back to the story, while chatting with my mom. I noticed an Asian woman constantly poking her head up looking at us a few times. (Thinking to myself, what does she want? We had heard her speaking on her cell earlier rather loudly too.) Finally a little bit into the trip, she came over asking us in Mandarin. (Thank god I learned it in College.) Turns out she was heading to Flushing for the first time and did not know how to get there. We said we would help her. No problem.
Come 4AM, we walk off to Times Square on 42nd ST (She was lucky I knew where to take her to catch the "7" as she knew not a lick of English at all.) She seemed to carry alot of stuff so I helped her. (We were coming from 27St off of 7th Avenue so not that far off from Times Square. Poor woman had glass bottles and her lightest bag was not light either.
After walking a good 30 minutes (taking stops here and there) we arrived at the 42nd Street "Subway" station. I even walked downstairs and walked her through the machine to get a subway ticket. (Also for her, the subway station originated there to Flushing.) When I sent her off at the turnstiles she teared up. She was very grateful. I never had anyone do that in gratitude. I just did not mind helping someone in need. I always live my life that way if I can do something I will try.
My mom thinks she started tearing up was because she initially thought we were going to Flushing as well so helping her was no big deal. But when she realized we were not joining her on the subway, it hit her that we were truly only helping her that she felt thankful. She said in chinese "thank you little miss." I have to say that woman has GUTS to do what she did. Good for her! I do believe in chances, fate and karma.
That woman was lucky to bump into us on a random weekday midnight trip to NYC. It as my first time doing it, a bit crazy but hard to sleep on that bumpy ride.
